IEC 62077-2001 pdf – Fibre optic circulators – Generic specification.
1 General 1.1 Scope This International Standard applies to circulators used in the field of fibre optics bearing all of the following features: – they are non-reciprocal optical devices, in which each port is either an optical fibre or optical fibre connector; – they are passive components containing no opto-electronic or other transducing elements; – they have three or more ports for directionally transmitting optical power. This standard establishes uniform requirements for the following: – fibre optic circulator requirements; – quality assessment procedures. 1.2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this International Standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. Members of IEC and ISO maintain registers of currently valid International Standards. 1.3.9 polarization dependent loss (PDL) for polarization independent circulators, the maximum fluctuation of attenuation for any state of polarization of P j 1.3.10 polarization mode dispersion (PMD) for polarization independent circulators, the maximum delay between two perpendicular states of polarization when they pass through an optical circulator 1.3.11 conducting ports two ports i and j between which t ij is nominally greater than zero 1.3.12 isolated ports two ports i and j between which t ij is nominally zero, and a ij is nominally infinite 1.3.13 operating wavelength nominal wavelength, λ , at which a passive component is designed to operate with the specified performance 1.3.14 operating wavelength range; bandpass specified range of wavelengths from λ i min to λ i max about a nominal operating wavelength λ i , within which a passive component is designed to operate with the specified performance 1.3.15 completely circulated type type of circulator whose transfer coefficient t n1 is nominally greater than zero
